Celebrating 15 Years of Creativity: Artillery’s Quinceañera

Kelly Ortega & Ivan Lopez - All Images captured by Nayelli Rosas

This month, we marked a major milestone: 15 years of our ceramic studio being a creative home for artists in the community. Originally started by three friends, the studio is now run by Ivan Lopez and Kelly Ortega, who have kept the space thriving with their dedication and passion.

Throwing blindfolded challenge

The quinceañera celebration was a night to remember. The event featured some unique and fun challenges, like hand-building while blindfolded, throwing on the wheel blindfolded, and teaming up with a friend to throw on the wheel using just one hand each. The mix of creativity and laughter made this event so special!

Enterprise Brewing table

Enterprise Brewery, based in the Soma district, provided the drinks for the evening. Their beer was a hit—perfectly chilled and full of flavor, it kept everyone refreshed throughout the night. If you’re in the SOMA area their brewery is definitely worth a visit.

Throwing in the garden with Clay people tools

We also want to give a shoutout to Clay People in Richmond, our go-to spot for all things clay. They’ve got an incredible selection of supplies that have supported countless projects at the studio. Including most of the tools we were using to handbuild and throw at our Quince! Whether you’re a seasoned ceramicist or just starting out, Clay People has everything you need.

DJ Basik spinning

DJ Basik kept the energy high all night long, spinning tracks that had everyone on their feet. We LOVED the throwback reggaeton and all the classic spanish hits. The vibe was electric, and it was clear that no one wanted the night to end.

Community pot

One of the evening’s highlights was the community pot, where everyone was invited to add their own figures. It was a great way to collaborate and create something that represents our collective spirit. It was so beautiful seeing folks work on something together and watching it come together throughout the night.

Conga line

Overall, it was an incredible night that celebrated not just the studio’s past, but also its future. Here’s to many more years of creativity and community.
